Surrounded by rolling hills covered with forests, fields, lakes and surrounding vineyards, the chateau offers tranquil relaxation amidst picuresque scenery. Stroll through the ancient woodlands, go for a swim in one of the surrounding lakes, or just settle into the grandeur of the chateau's salon and dining room. The Chatelard is used to guests arriving by bike or on horse-back and, in the latter case, can pasture the horses in its own fields. Your hostess, vicountess Beatrice de Castelbajac, awaits you with a warm welcome. Between them, Beatrice and Christopher Macann command French, English, German and Spanish and enjoy discussions with their guests on any subject. Location Address: Le Chatelard Passirac 16580 Brossac Charente Directions: The chateau is situated in the village of Passirac on the D 731 between Chalais and Barbezieux. Barbezieux lies on the N. 10 running from Bordeaux to Paris. At Barbezieux follow signs to Chalais. From the A. 10, take exit 36 to Pons, Archiac & Barbezieux to join the D 731 to Chalais. There is a local train connection at Chalais, though the TGV will only stop at Angouleme. The closest airport connections to and from England are at Bordeaux and Bergerac (1 hr.) where rental cars can be hired History Built in the 1870s as a summer house for the de la Croix family of Angouleme, the Chatelard stands proundly at the centre of a major farming estate. In a region known for its production of Cognac and St Emilion wines, the Chatelard sells its own label Bordeaux wine, Pineau and Cognac. The house retains most of its original architectural features including fine carved stone and plasterwork, marble fireplaces and oak panelling. It has its own tended forests and three lakes. Accommodation What We Offer Le Chatelard offers bed and breakfast accommodation for individuals, couples or families from one night to several weeks. Evening meals (Tables d¹hôtes) can also be prepared with advance notice. There are many areas to relax out of doors or take an al fresco meal. Guests are always welcome to explore the chateau's large grounds and enjoy the beautiful sunshine of South-West France. Rooms We have four rooms: 3 double bedrooms 1 twin bedroom All rooms have ensuite bathrooms. Prices Our current room prices are 50 euros per night for two with breakfast included. A reduction is made for a single person and extra beds can be introduced into the rooms for a small additional charge. Complete evening meals are available, on request, for an additional 15 euros, wine included.
